Adopt-A-Plot Overview |
The Cemetery Restoration
Committee of Patchogue (CRC) is
initiating an innovative concept
in cemetery restoration,
beautification, and
preservation.
The CRC
Adopt-A-Plot program offers
individuals, groups,
organizations and companies the
opportunity to play a vital role
preserving a historic Patchogue
landmark.

About
the CRC |
The CRC is a group of independent
volunteers formally organized on May 22,
2006 to restore five historic and sacred
cemeteries located within the Village of
Patchogue. This restoration project is
undertaken in conjunction with the
Incorporated Village of Patchogue and
the Greater Patchogue Foundation, Inc.
This restoration project includes the
following cemeteries, all of which are
located on the corner of West Main
Street and Waverly Avenue in the
historic Village of Patchogue: |
Lake View Cemetery
Rice Cemetery
Union Cemetery |
Gerard Cemetery
Old Episcopal Cemetery |
|
Concept |
The concept is simply people getting
involved in efforts to revitalize a
community resource, restore its past
dignity and beauty, and preserve it for
generations yet to come. By adopting a
Patchogue pioneer family's plot and
caring for it, you become an integral
part of the CRC's restoration and
preservation program. A few hours of
your time each month and a little
landscaping imagination can make up for
the years of neglect that frequently
plagues old cemeteries.
The CRC
Adopt-A-Plot program can be more
than taking care of a piece of ground.
The CRC encourages participants in the
program to research their "adopted"
family's history which, in itself, can
be a truly rewarding experience. And by
contributing your research to the CRC's
archives of genealogical information,
you also help to preserve history. You
can play an important role in
beautifying and preserving Patchogue
history. |

Commitment |
|
The CRC Adopt-A-Plot program
involves a commitment of time. Those who
are interested should carefully weigh
that commitment before undertaking their
project. The duration of the adopter's
involvement in this program shall be
contingent upon that period of time
agreed to in the contract and their
continuing desire to participate. The
minimum participation requirement in the
program is two years. Other
arrangements, however, may be made with
the CRC. |
